Acne Treatments

What is Acne?

Acne is a real problem for most people varying in age and skin type. Regardless of one’s situation everyone experiences some form of an unsightly, inconvenient outbreak at some point in their lives.

There are many myths about the causes of acne, most surround by hygiene, however that is not accurate. Acne can be caused by the body’s increased production of the hormone androgen (produced by both men and women) which stimulates the sebaceous glands to produce more oil. The increased production of oil causes the pores to become blocked so that the oil cannot come up to the skin’s surface. The proprionbacterium/p-acne then feed on and break down this oil. As the bacteria multiply, waste products and sebacic acid are created and irritate the sebaceous gland which becomes inflamed causing a blackhead (open comedone), pimple or nodule.

Skincare for Acne

While there is no "one size fits all" cure for acne, we know that using medical grade skincare, doing chemical peels and using LED light therapy can greatly reduce it and keep it at bay. Consistent medical grade skincare use is one of the most underrated treatments on the market today.

Part of the reason why you might shy away from investing in skincare is because you've spend money in the past on that one "miracle" product that ended up not working and eventually you just gave up. When it comes to skincare, you can't just use one thing, it's not that simple. It has never worked and it never will. In order to see long lasting results, you need a full regimen that is specific to YOUR skin.

This is why we need to see you in our clinic so we can get a full history, give you a VISIA skin analysis (a fancy machine that reads your skin) and to suggest products and treatments tailored to you specifically.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are designed to enhance your skin’s overall complexion for a more rejuvenated look and feel. The treatment can be performed anywhere on the body to treat discoloured skin, wrinkles and fine lines, acne scarring, active acne, texture and tone of your skin. Organized into three categories: superficial, medium, and deep, chemical peels loosen the bonds between healthy and dead skin cells and promotes new cell growth to thicken the epidermis, increase dermal volume and promote collage synthesis.

Light Therapy

If you suffer from acne, it’s likely you’ve heard of light therapy as a possible solution to your pimple woes. LED blue light therapy is the new wave of skin care for people who have tried other acne treatments, but still aren’t seeing the results they want or as an add on to help assist with other treatments. It's non-toxic, non-invasive, and really, really effective.

LED light therapy works by killing acne-causing bacteria at the source, deep beneath the skin’s surface. As people across the nation are searching for more natural, chemical-free alternatives to traditional medical solutions, light therapy fits the bill perfectly. Blue LED light therapy emits specific, clinically-proven wavelengths of light to trigger an all-natural effect in human tissue, killing acne-causing bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and improving skin tone, texture, and clarity from the inside out. However, not all light therapy is created equal.

Blue and red LED light light-therapy is widely used as an effective option for the treatment of inflammatory acne.
