What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common skin condition that is characterized by facial redness and blood vessels becoming visible. Rosacea usually affects the chin, cheeks, nose, and forehead, but might also appear on the eyes, neck, chest, or back. For some people with rosacea, the condition might also cause swelling of the nose and pus-filled pimples on the face or chest.

Rosacea and Redness

Rosacea Triggers Include:

  • Exposure to sunlight
  • Stress + anxiety
  • Consuming alcohol
  • Eating hot or spicy foods
  • Exercise/physical exertion

    Rosacea Symptoms

At first, the redness may come and go, but without treatment, rosacea can become permanent. You may begin to see tiny blood vessels on your cheeks and nose. The condition tends to progress with time without rosacea treatment. There are 3 stages starting with the blushing, and appearance of vessels to acne rosacea in stage 2 of the condition. By stage 3, you may have an enlarged nose, chin, or oil glands.

    What Causes Rosacea and Redness?

Unfortunately, there is no known cause of rosacea, but many doctors believe that rosacea may be caused by a neurovascular system or immune system problem. Your neurovascular system includes your veins, nerves, and arteries, while the immune system helps the body attack threats to the body. There are other theories for the causes of rosacea, which include genetics and other serious health conditions, like cancer.
Rosacea, a common skin condition, affects nearly 45 million women worldwide. Rosacea can have several symptoms, including:

    • Redness or flushing of the face
    • Skin that blushes easily
    • Small, visible blood vessels
    • A red nose
    • Thickened skin
    • Red, watery eyes
    • Small bumps filled with pus

While the exact cause is unknown, evidence shows that each individual can have triggers that cause their Rosacea to flare up at different times. The presence of facial redness does not always mean that the individual has Rosacea. Facial redness tends to be less severe, and is most commonly caused by uneven skin tone due to sun damage. It can also be caused by dilated facial vessels such as spider veins.

Rosacea and redness can sometimes be mistaken for acne, allergic reactions, rashes and other skin conditions. A consultation with our medical team will ensure that your skin is properly evaluated before proceeding with treatment.

How are Rosacea and Redness Treated?

Just as no two skin types are alike, at Envy Beauty we understand that not everyone responds to the same treatment. We offer multiple options depending on your individual condition, including:

    • IPL Photorejuvenation is a light-based treatment that uses non-invasive pulses to reduce Rosacea and redness without making symptoms worse.
    • Laser Vein Removal is a non-surgical solution to removing broken capillaries, especially on the nose. Laser energy has the ability to bypass the skin surface and heat the vessels underneath the skin without irritating or damaging surrounding skin or tissues.

Rosacea and redness are sensitive skin conditions that should be treated gently, as it can be easy to trigger a flare-up and exacerbate symptoms. Not all treatments are appropriate for treating these conditions, and at Envy Beauty, our medical team is familiar with treatment methods that are both safe and effective for your Rosacea or redness-prone skin.
